Beale Park, at Lower Basildon in Berkshire, is offering a variety of additional activities to entertain the children this summer, including Bertie’s Fun Zone, offering a host of “make & do, “puzzles & games” and colouring activities which can be downloaded for free from their new website for those rainy days!!
Summer activities include:
Pond Dipping: Beale Park is running a summer programme of Pond Dipping; giving local youngsters the chance to come face-to-face with the Park’s pond life.
Dave Coles, Curator, and his team will be introducing children to the many insects which live in our waters, in a series of free sessions which will run each Tuesday, (from 27th July) during the summer holidays, from 2pm-4pm. The sessions will operate on a first come, first served basis and parental supervision will be required.
Insect trail: There’s fun in store for all the family with an “Insect Trail” around the Park. For just 50p you can enter the Trail and Prize Draw to win a Beale Park family season ticket (2 adults, 2 children), a day ticket (2 adults, 2 children) or a £25 voucher to the Peacock Restaurant. Just look for the clues which are dotted around the Park – it’s a quiz that’s bound to bug you!
Face Painting: Funky Faces is back, offering visitors the chance to brighten their day with a face painting, glitter or henna tattoo. Lou and her team will be in the Park throughout the summer holidays – Monday to Friday from 12-6pm. Please note that additional charges do apply and that this service will not be available on selected dates.
Junior Keeper Session: New for 2010, Beale Park is introducing a limited series of “Junior Keeper Experience” Sessions, giving youngsters (10-17yrs) the chance to see behind the scenes and to meet the animals as they get up close and personal!
Feeding, cleaning and tidying of enclosures are just a few of the many daily tasks that the kids can try their hand at, with sessions running throughout the summer holidays – 26th July to 3rd September.
Each two hour session will take place in the Park’s popular Pets’ Corner, enabling the children to work with animal favourites such as rabbits, guinea pigs, chicks, pigs and goats; as they assist with all aspects of their care. Tasks range from cleaning and enclosure maintenance to the preparation of bedding.
Dave Coles, Curator, says “This is an ideal opportunity for children to work with various different animals and to gain an understanding of what is involved in caring for them.”
Prices: All sessions are £30 per child. Please note: parental supervision is required.
