The Monkey Band was first introduced to Beale Park in the 1950s by Gilbert Beale, founder of the Park.
Gilbert's love for sculptures and statues, combined with his desire for the unusual, made the German band of monkeys an ideal purchase.
Monkey Bands became popular in the 18th century in Germany. They appeared in as satirical cartoons poking fun at popular figures of the day. At the same time, monkeys playing in groups were also found travelling circuses.
